Myopia is also known as near-sightedness since individuals who are afflicted with it can see near stuff in focus, but distant things appear blurry.
Short sightedness may develop quickly in children as they grow, becoming worse in teen years. When you enter your 20s the problem tends to stabilize.
Nearsightedness is often discovered in children because of the inclination of these kids to squint at objects.
So what on earth precisely causes Nearsightedness?
To understand this, we need to understand a little about the structure of the eye.
Located at the back of the eye is the retina. You can imagine the retina as being just like a movie theater screen onto which the world around you is focused. As you look about you, light from the objects you are checking out goes through the exterior surface of your eye (the cornea), and through the iris and lens, and finally on to the retina. When the light travels through these layers, it's bent so the images are usually focused upon the retina.
Nearsightedness is really a defect in the eye that leads to images coming into the eye to focus in front of the retina. The result is that the image will be blurry and out of focus.
Nearsightedness can be due to one of these:
-
The cornea (the outer surface of the eyeball) is too curved.
-
Your eye itself is too long.
Any time a person experiencing Nearsightedness looks at far away objects, the light rays coming from those remote items tend to be near enough parallel to one another. To focus the image, the rays have to be bent so that they converge onto the retina at the rear of the eye. However, because of the complications already mentioned, the rays tend to be bent too much and converge in front of the retina.
Having said that, whenever somebody with Nearsightedness focuses on a nearby thing, the rays of light from these nearby objects enter the eye from an angle, which means the light needs to be bent much more, and in this instance, the rays actually focus properly onto the retina, so near vision just isn't impacted Myopia.
When a person wears a pair of glasses or contact lenses to fix myopia, those lenses make certain that the light coming into your eye converges on the retina, thus bringing the world into focus.
One more option to fix Myopia is lasik eye surgery, where the physician can change the shape of the cornea to ensure light focuses accurately.
Contact lenses can be used to treat Myopia. For more information on Myopia, or any other site related problem, visit Contact Vision.
