Removals are one of those life-changing events that can bring with them a lot of stress and worry. However, there is no reason for you to build up tension and anxiety over something that can easily be made into a smooth and tightly-run operation. Moving is simply a matter of planning. By properly planning every stage of your removal from hiring the right removal company to finding a sitter for your children and/or your pets on the day of the move, you will be able to get all of your things done in a timely way without forgetting any details.

Make sure to have a list

One of the best ways to keep everything on track when it comes to removals is to write everything down. It is no secret that when it comes to a removal, there are a hundred different things that need to get done from advising all of your family, friends and associates of your new address to getting your dentist and doctor files transferred to the physicians who will be taking over your care in your new neighbourhood. Forgetting any little detail can result in misunderstandings, mix-ups and mayhem, therefore, it is best to keep track of everything that needs to get done by writing it down.

Breaking down your list

There are different ways to break down your list. You can either break it down by what has to get done, by timeline or by order of importance. One of the better ways of breaking down a list is to do it by timeline – especially when it comes to international removals where there are certain things that need to be started well in advance, such as applying for visas and work permits. If you have children make sure that you start looking for a new school in your future neighbourhood well in advance as well since schools in some districts might have waiting lists that you will need to get your children’s names onto in order to even get a chance of attending. A timeline list is also practical because you can add prompts to it to remind you to recheck your removal company booking and to ensure that your moving day priorities are all set.

Packing

Another way of minimizing stress during removals is to make sure to start packing early. By packing early we do not mean that you should be placing things in boxes six months before you move, but you should be taking stock of all your belongings. Get rid of all those items that you will not be taking with you. You can either sell them, donate them to charity or simply throw them out altogether. As you approach your moving day you can start packing slowly beginning in the rooms that are least used in your home. Make sure to clearly label each box. Keep a master list of your boxes and what they contain so that if you need to get something you will know exactly where to find it.

Removals do not have to be a headache. They can, and should, be an exciting time. By planning ahead and keeping track of everything you need to do, you can enjoy your removal process.
