Beware the Low Priced Moving Companies

Moving companies know that when you are faced with a house removal the last thing that you need is to add to your expenses. While established and reputable moving companies are aware of this fact and are sympathetic towards it, they also know that unless they charge a certain amount, they will not be able to provide the kind of service their clients expect from a shipping company. When it comes to international movers, this is even more true – shipping anything must bear certain fixed costs such as fuel, labour and insurance, so there is no way that shipping your belongings somewhere could cost less than their expenses and overhead combined.

Bearing this in mind it is best to consider your options when comparing moving companies. Most people’s first instinct would be to get quotes from a number of movers and then choose the lowest cost provider on that list. However, before you do so think about this: if fuel costs a certain amount per kilometre, if they must pay the movers who will show up at your door, if they must pay for the agent answering the phone each time you call then they have to charge at least the minimum costs for each of these services. If you are quoted a price that would work out to less than the cost of fuel, then you have to wonder a) what kind of service you are likely to receive and b) whether you will be hit by staggering hidden costs after the move is complete.

Aside from the poor service you are likely to receive and the hidden costs that are sure to balloon your final tally post-house removal, there is another danger that you face when you engage the services of the lowest quote moving company on your shortlist. Some of these companies deliberately offer unrealistically low prices in order to hook your interest. The rub comes once they have loaded your belongings into their moving truck. Some of these unscrupulous movers then refuse to deliver your goods to your new place unless you agree to pay them more – sometimes extravagantly more than your initial agreement. Only after you have paid their demanded price will they release your goods. Unfortunately, there is not much that the authorities can do in such situations. It is, therefore, best to avoid getting caught altogether.

When looking at moving companies to hire, it is not necessary to select the priciest company. It is best to choose the company offering you the kind of services you need and want. Unless you want all of the bells and whistles, there is no point in paying for them. Finding a moving company that offers you the kind of service you want at a decent mid-point is the key to hiring a good removals supplier.

Do not let yourself get tricked into hiring the lowest cost provider unless you are absolutely sure that the price they are quoting you makes fiscal sense based on simple economic factors such as fuel price and the cost of labour. After all, it is always best to pay just a little bit extra in order to get exactly what you want.
