Weight Loss - Concepts You Need to Know
Why do we gain weight? What is the internal cellular process that goes on that causes us to gain weight? Allow me to explain why having knowledge of this process can help you on your weight loss journey.
If you have ever been on a diet or are thinking about starting one, it is important that you have an understanding of why you gain weight in the first place. And, believe me, it isn't too complicated.
Having this knowledge will, I promise, give you a whole new perspective on what is happening that causes you to gain weight. And, will help you obtain the discipline to follow the weight loss program you are on.
Discipline is not something you are born with. Discipline is built on the foundation of knowledge. And when equipped with this knowledge, then it becomes easy to follow the program you are on. Of course, that's assuming the program you are following is constructed, or should I say, grounded upon good science.
This knowledge I am referring to, will enable to understand how certain foods can negatively affect the internal cellular processes going on in your body. By getting into the habit of thinking about these negative processes that will occur when you eat those French fries, then you will be able to refrain from eating them.
We will begin by focusing on that part of nutrition that has the most impact on weight gain and weight loss. That is, the blood sugar/insulin process.. Blood sugar is not something that only diabetics need to be aware of. Anyone, trying to lose weight or anyone trying to get rid of stubborn belly fat needs to understand how to regulate their blood sugar. It gets right to the heart of the matter.
I want to give you a quick synopsis of how blood sugar and insulin processes work. When you eat carbohydrates, they are broken down in your system and contribute to your blood sugar level, depending on how much you ate and how fast it was digested.
If too much sugar is produced, then your pancreas secrets insulin to remove the excess from your blood. The excess is stored in 3 different places. It is deposited in muscle glycogen stores, liver glycogen stores, or into fat stores (upon conversion). If your muscle or liver glycogen stires are already full then guess what? The excess blood sugar is stored as fat.
Having high blood sugar for an extended period of time is dangerous for your health. So your pancreas pumps out insulin to help your body out of this dangerous situation. Unfortunately this makes you store lots fat if your food consumption causes you to produce too much blood sugar and subsequently too much insulin.
Are you getting the picture as to how we are getting fat? there is more bad news about this blood sugar/insulin relationship.
When too much insulin is released it takes your blood sugar from a high to an extreme low. And the side effect of low sugar is, feeling hungry, having cravings, and feeling tired. Are you beginning to understand this vicious cycle? I hope your answer is yes, because having this knowledge will give you the discipline to follow your weight loss program.
So, if we can regulate our blood sugar and insulin then we can control our weight. and that's what we want to do right? Having this knowledge of what the internal cellular process that is going on with regards to your eating habits can now give you the discipline to follow your weight loss program. And, of course achieve your desired goals.
