If you have ever taken your weight related health concerns to your Doctor, and asked him to recommend the best cardiovascular exercises for weight loss. There is no doubt that he will tell you that both a healthy diet and exercise is the key to the problem.

First, they will recommend a change of diet, and the second, an increase in activity. You could have saved yourself a journey, because I’m sure you knew that already. Unless of course you are one of the people that still believes in the ‘Magic Weight Loss Fairy?

A change of diet can be quite complex, and sometimes quite difficult to adapt to for some. However, exercise is pretty simple and available to everyone.

If you have been sitting behind a desk all day, this is a very low level of activity, all the while feeding your body with snacks and other foods that are rich in trans fats, protein and carbohydrates.

Cutting down on red meats and instead substituting with white meats and lots of greens is a good strategy to begin with.

The next step to take is to become more physically active. This need not be hard or expensive, since one can jog or walk around their neighborhood with little or no effort.

However, according to whether or not you are recovering from an illness or just want to shed those extra ponds, your Doctor may convince you to do low to moderate intensity aerobic training. This is commonly referred to as cardiovascular training exercises.

If you haven’t been active for a while, they may suggest you do about 30-60 minutes of steady pace cardio for about 3-5 times in a week. This schedule has been documented to help maintain your heart rate at a moderate level

However, before you jump into such a routine, consider some recent scientific research that gives concrete facts to prove such cardio workouts may not be as efficient as we are led to believe.

Our bodies were designed to perform physical activity, in bursts of exertion, followed by a recovery period. If you examine most sports, you will find that most of them go with this burst of exertion, or stop-and-go movement, as it is also called.

Another factor to keep in mind when it comes to any physical workouts you might be considering is the effects to your body internally.

Low to moderate intensity aerobic training only trains the heart rate at a specific level. You don’t get the heart fully involved. What your really need, is the kind of exercise that trains your heart to rapidly increase and rapidly decrease is the condition that will benefit you more fully. If you do stop-and-go type movements, you will find that your body reacts to it in a far better manner.

The best cardiovascular exercises will increase your metabolic rate. and train the heart to respond to, and recover from, a variety of demands and stress levels.
