You should close your eyes as long as the hypnosis session is planned.

For practicing self hypnosis you need to pick time and place wherever you feel comfortable and will not be disturbed or distracted by outside elements. And if for whatever reasons you decide to change your routine or place, and then by all means apply a change to either the place or the time, or both, and then evaluate the improvement.
