Twitter is the most popular social media site on the internet. Since it was launched, it had received a lot of participation from the public. Many people like to use Twitter because it has a user friendly interface. Twitter is used by companies and organizations to make public announcement. In Twitter, the posts is called Tweets. The friend in Twitter is called followers. The goal of joining Twitter is to get as much follower as you can so that you can spread the viral message about your products and services.

The first thing to do is to sign up for an account on Twitter. It is best that you use your real name so that people will regard you as professional. The Protect my updates box should be left unchecked so that people can read your tweets. After you have set up a Twitter account, you can promote it on all your sites including MySpace, Facebook, and blog. Twitter has a widget which you can add to your blog.

After you have signed up for an account, you must update the profile page. In the profile page, you will be able to upload a photo and enter your biography. The biography should briefly describe the products or services which you are offering. The photo should represent you. You should not use a fake photo that represent someone else. By using your own photo, your followers will be able to recognize you.

You should not attempt to post too many tweets in a short time. If you keep posting the tweets, the moderator will take note of you. Though it is rare for the moderator to ban you, it is best that you don’t post too many tweets. You can follow other members with related interest on Twitter. You can use Twitter profile search site such as Twellow to find Tweeters in the related interests. To make sure the people has the same interest, you should read their blogs. In this way, you will be able to make sure that you are in the right niche. When a person follow you, you can send a thank you direct message. You should not use the direct message function to send links to other members.

If you want to have an active profile, you should update daily. If the Twitter page seems to have no activity, your followers will unfollow you. You can create activity on your profile by posting questions and letting your followers answer. You can also post about what is happening in your life. When you engage in conversation with your followers, people will become familiar with you. You will become famous on Twitter. When you are famous on Twitter, your marketing message will become powerful because your followers are listening to you. They will buy your product because they are interested in it.

Facebook offers the same service as Twitter. Many businesses use the Facebook fan page to create a page about their products and services. In the fan page, you can include links to your website. Facebook allows you to create a large network of friends just like Twitter.
