The rise in the number of people with lots of consumer debts keeps on continuing to that point that having a lot of debt becomes a part of daily living. Regardless whether you still have a good credit score, you should still start to formulate a debt management plan to get yourself free of debt as quickly as possible. In fact, you can take advantage of your good credit history because with that, getting a loan to pay all your debts becomes easier than if you do it later when you already have poor credit scores. However, if you already have a poor credit standing and you think you should apply for a loan, consider consumer credit counseling.

Getting a loan to consolidate all your debts is an easy way to manage you debts because instead of monitoring several lists, you now only have to monitor one. That is not the only advantage of consolidating your debts. If you have carefully chosen the company from which you will get your loan, you are most likely to pay for lower interests than if you remained on holding on to your cluttered list of debts.

The most common problem people face after consolidating their debts is still the same problem that brought them into a huge debt in the first place: the compulsive spending spree. The reason why people get into this same problem is because after consolidating their debts and knowing that they are now going to pay for a lower interest rate, they no longer feel the pressure of cutting their expenses. Do the same thing and you are sure to suffer the same, actually worse, problem in the future.

If you really want to get into a life free of debt, then you should start changing your spending behavior as soon as you consolidate your debts. Do this by setting a moratorium on your credit cards; in fact, you should eliminate its use if you are really determined to attain financial freedom. You should also start living within your means; buy only those that you really have to buy, pay all your loans and bills on time, and never ever use your credit card to buy anything unless it is an absolute emergency. Yes, make your credit card a last resort for an immediate emergency expense only. Doing these is the only way to achieve and maintain a debt-free and financially independent life.
