Professor Ghemawat gained his Business Economics PhD from Harvard University and then became a consultant at McKinsey & Co. in London. He then moved to Harvard Business School to take up an academic and research career in 1983 and was subsequently appointed as the youngest professor in the history of Harvard Business School. He joined IESE business school in 2006 and in 2008 was awarded a fellowship at the Strategic Management Society. His academic achievements have been marked by various awards, including the Irwin 'Outstanding Educator' Award in 2008 from the Academy of Management.
