Mount Pleasant, South Carolina is one of the most popular suburbs of Charleston with master planned communities. Home buyers often choose Mt. Pleasant because it has such good neighborhoods to choose from (not to mention great public schools). If you’re looking for neighborhoods with great amenities, Mt. Pleasant should be one of the first areas to consider because most of its subdivisions have at least a pool.

I’ve organized this article so that you can narrow down your home search to just the neighborhoods that have the amenities you want. These lists are just for houses (single family detached homes).

Homes with golf amenities: Mt. Pleasant has four golfing communities. Rivertowne Country Club and Dunes West are usually top choices among home buyers, but these are also some of the priciest in the area. Charleston National has more affordable homes, but this neighborhood is one of the furthest from downtown Charleston (hence the better prices). Snee Farm is located right at the heart of Mt. Pleasant, but know that these are mostly older homes that were built in the 1970s and 80s.

Homes with a community pool and tennis: Most of the neighborhoods that have a pool also have tennis facilities. (The only exception that I can think of is Watermark.) For neighborhoods with a pool and tennis, check out: Park West, Dunes West, Planters Pointe, Charleston National, Darrell Creek, Oakhaven Plantation, Belle Hall, Longpoint, Snee Farm, Brickyard Plantation, Rivertowne, Seaside Farms, Hamlin Plantation, Hobcaw Creek Plantation, Hidden Cove, Hidden Lakes, Ion, Ravens Run, Marsh Harbor, Olde Park, Commonwealth, and Center Lake.

Homes with neighborhood dock facilities: Park West, Dunes West, Darrell Creek, Rivertowne, Commonwealth, Alston Point, Sewee Preserve, Brickyard Plantation, Horlbeck Creek, Hobcaw Creek Plantation, Fiddlers Marsh, Ion, Belle Hall, Grassy Creek, Ravens Run, Cooper Estates, Olde Park, and Old Village.

Neighborhoods with a boat ramp: This list will be much shorter, but having a boat ramp in your community can mean getting in the water faster during peak boat season. These neighborhoods include Dunes West, Brickyard Plantation, Cooper Estates, Hobcaw Creek Plantation, Horlbeck Creek, Ion, and Ravens Run.

Gated communities: A lot of buyers ask about gated communities. But, believe it or not, Mt. Pleasant only has 2 gated communities: Dunes West and Ravens Run. Instead of narrowing down to just these two communities, buyers who originally looked for gated neighborhoods often expand their search to included non-gated because the Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods are so nice and feel very safe as they are.

If amenities are a deciding factor in your home search, be sure to talk with your Realtor so that you can consider only those neighborhoods that meet your individual needs!
