FTC Complaints (am I a Big Enough Fish)

Most people don't believe that they are big enough fish for the FTC to worry about.

But you should know that although it is true that the FTC does have limited resources (at last count only about 900 employees), they have teams of people searching the net looking for offenders & it's entirely possible that they might find YOU!

They are searching for non-compliance to their Rules and Regulations, and they have no problem shutting you down, seizing your assets and taking you to court, no matter HOW small your business is, or how many assets you have.

So no...You are NOT immune to their finding you through searches, and taking you down!

However, the bigger threat, because of their limited resources, is in the fact that they concentrate their efforts on the complaints that they get from disgruntled customers. And we all know how fickle customers can be & how much trouble they'll go to for revenge.

The thing is that although their complaint may or may not hold water, it will get your site noticed. And trust me, that's something you do NOT want. Once your site is flagged by the FTC, they will go over it with a fine tooth comb, looking for ANY infractions of the law.So it's important to be compliant now, before it's too late

Should they come looking at your sites, either through a bad luck finding, or from a custom complaint, it is already too late to become compliant in most cases.

They will notify you that your site does not meet their rules, and then what happens is up to you.

If you fix it to their satisfaction, they MAY just leave you alone. Or they may just fine you.

In worst case scenarios, they MAY take you to court. And if that happens, you will have all your assets (and I do mean ALL) frozen for the duration of the proceedings. And they will not release them until the trial is over and any fines, court costs, and the infractions have been satisfies.

The worst part is that they usually don't even tell you what is wrong! only that your site is not legal, leaving you to figure out what it is that they took exception with.

This whole process is extremely disruptive to your business and life in general...not to mention expensive.

Court costs alone can (and usually do) run into the Tens of Thousands of dollars. And win or lose, you will have to pay those costs, and the cost of your attorneys.

Needless to say, if you want to enjoy a worry free business career as an Internet Entrepreneur, it would be prudent to get compliant from the start.

It's not that hard, and with the resources available today, it's not even that expensive.

And it might just keep you out of the kind of trouble that you most definitely do NOT want!
