Betta fish are a popular house hold tank fish and it is vital you maintain their habitat so the Betta fish’s life is as fun and enjoyable as possible. Betta fish need care and you must be observant about their health. A sick Betta is easy to spot since naturally the fish is very active and vibrant when fully well but the opposite when they are ill or sick. If you have had the fish for a while you will be able to spot immediately when they are unwell.

There are a few accessories you can add to their housing to make sure they stay happier. The three most important Betta fish tank accessories are water filters, water heaters and thermometers.

The first tool for keeping the Betta fish’s health at optimum levels are water filters, these keep the water as clean as possible for as long as possible, they are very inexpensive and can pick one up from your local pet shop or online for around $20. However if you do not want to splash the cash on a water filter then you’ll need to change the Betta fish’s water a lot more frequently which can have bad effects as changing water radically changes the climate and environment that the Betta fish would have adapted to.

The second tool at your disposal for keeping your Betta fish healthy is a water heater, Betta fish need a certain temperature constantly to be in perfect living conditions. When exposed to low temperatures the Betta fish will suffer and if exposed to low temperatures for a prolonged amount of time then the Betta fish will die which shows the importance of having a water heater. They are fairly cheap and can be picked up from a lot of websites and in local pet store for around $10.

The most important tools of the three but the most simple and inexpensive is a thermometer, vital for keeping water temperature at a healthy level and works hand in hand with the water heater as it helps you gage how powerful the water heater needs to be. Thermometers can be picked up from nearly everywhere, you can go for the classic adhesive fish tank thermometer which sticks to the side of your tank or you can go for the high tech digital thermometer which provides fast and accurate results.
