A Religious Experience on Prince Edward Island

Like all parts of the globe, Prince Edward Island is home to several churches of many different denominations. There is something for everyone, so to speak, all existing in harmony. It is possible to attend the church of your choice while on vacation or to simply explore the churches and examine their historical roots.

For example, brothers William and Robert Harris left an imprint on the province with their architecture and artwork. William was an architect who built many buildings on PEI, including St. Paul's Anglican Church in Charlottetown. Brother Robert was an artist whose works adorn many of his brother's buildings. St.Paul's was constructed in 1896. Robert also built St. Mary's Catholic Church in Indian River, home to the annual Indian River Festival, the All Sou's Chapel at St Peter's Cathedral, as well. All of the churches display the works of brother Robert. The paintings of brother Robert Harris number 16 on display among the various churches.

Another historical building is St. John's Presbyterian Church in Belfast. It was constructed in 1824 by Lord Selkirk settlers who emigrated from Scotland. The architect behind the plan was Robert Jones who was also an immigrant to the island. The church design was crafted by Sir Christopher Wren.

St. Simon and St. Jude Church in Tignish features a huge pipe organ which is still in use. And don't forget to visit the historically famous, Notre Dame du Mt Carmel in Cape Egmont. Ask your travel agent for a list of famous and historic churches to visit and study during your vacation and as well ask your agent to look to select from many of the fine PEI cottages and hotels available during your stay close to many other famous PEI locations such as, Cavendish Beach, the land of Anne of Green Gables, Charlottetown, Summerside, and numerous other PEI vacation spots.
