How to Take Care of Kittens on Their First Stage of Life

Kittens grow up from the most fragile little creature to the most lovable and fearless acrobat in the animal planet. But during their first stage of life, a significant care of kittens is one of the crucial process in the cat's tenacious life.

Raising kittens is a decision you can never let go. Before anything else, consider every factors in your household, such as physical and emotional preparedness, budget, family condition, and other pets.

The first thing you have to do when caring for kitten is giving the newborn warmth. Do some physical examination and provide the little one food. Birth weight usually doubles from 3-4 ounces after the first 7 days.

Kittens will play with almost anything wherein socializing and bonding in this stage is much more given priority. Develop the little feline's trust while kitten develop physical skills and have fun.

Weaning. Starts when your kitten is at 4 weeks old. Satisfy him with dry or canned food for kittens. Complete and balanced kitten foods should come primarily in dry, soft-moist and canned. All three contain the essential nutrients with the amount of water in the product as the difference between them. Alternate each kind in order to give distinction. Do not feed him cow's milk as it may cause him stomach upset and may lead to diarrhea.

Water. Provide clean, safe and fresh water all the time in a non-plastic container. China bowls are much preferred since plastic tends to tip off easily and just spill the water.

Nutrition. Cats and kittens rely on nutrients in animal tissues to meet their specific nutritional requirements, comprising mainly on high protein diet, smaller amounts of fat and carbohydrates plus vitamins and minerals.

Warmth. Warmth is the first priority given to kittens as their body is still too small to retain body heat. Place him in a soft beddings in a clean dry box in a warm spot. Do not ever use warm electronic blankets to heat the kitten up as it can burn the fragile skin of the little one.

Baths. Instinctively, kittens lick and clean themselves. They are know for their cleanliness. But do not bathe the kitten regularly unless necessary to do so. Remember that they still can't have the body heat retention as older cats can. One way to make the kitten clean is to wipe him with damp washcloth in short strokes.

Litter box. Make sure that kitty knows where the litter box is and that he can easily get in and out of it. Keep it clean so that it will encourage your kitten to develop a good litter box habit. Training your kitten to use the litter box is simple but requires attention to your trainee.
