Spray tanning is a new, great way to get the look and feel of tan skin, but without the harmful effects that tanning booths give. Although spray tanning will give you a great tan without any tan lines, there are ways to get the best possible results from your spray tan.

A great way to make sure that your tan will last as long as possible is by exfoliating your skin. This sheds the top layer of skin that mostly consists of dead skin. The dead skin usually sheds off naturally over a few days. By removing this layer of skin, the tanning solution bonds to your top layer of skin rather than to dead skin. This keeps the solution on your skin for as long as possible.

Another great technique to make sure that your spray tan stays longer is to shower just before getting the spray tan. Showering before a spray tan is good for a few different reasons. For one, by showering, you get rid of sweat, dead skin, and dirt which may not be visible but is present on the surface of the skin. By shedding yourself of these, you allow the spray tanning solution to bond directly with your skin. Another reason why showering is a good idea before a spray tan is the fact that you shouldn’t shower until at least 8 hours after getting a spray tan. Waiting 8 hours allows enough time for the solution to sink into the pores of your skin and have a more lasting effect. You also avoid streaks and water marks on the skin by waiting 8 hours. So if you want to be clean, it is a good idea to shower just before getting your spray tan.

Another great way to make sure that you get the best out of your spray tan is to dress appropriately for after the session. If you wear light clothing, you risk staining these clothes with the solution. Interestingly enough, the solution can give off a green tint. Deodorant seems to bring out the green (so scrub this off in your pre-session shower). Wearing dark, baggy clothing is recommended so that you don’t have the solution stain your clothing, and so that it doesn’t rub off of your skin and onto your clothing too much.
