Austin is the fourth largest city in Texas and the fourteenth largest in the United States. Originally named Waterloo, the city was later named after Stephen F. Austin. Home to a multitude of local bands, venues, and large music festivals, Austin has gained the reputation of being the "the Live Music Capital of the World". Recently named one of the top ten fittest cities in the nation, Austin residents enjoy activities such as swimming, hiking, jogging, and rock climbing. Austin is also home to some of the finest trail systems in the nation, making it one of the best places for biking.
In the Slaughter Creek Metropolitan Park, there is a 3.17 mile, 23 feet wide trail known as The Veloway, one of the best places for biking around Austin. On this trail, bikers enjoy a peaceful environment free from traffic and noise. The Veloway is open everyday except when reserved for events.
Another trail that can be considered one of the best places for biking around Austin is the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail. Situated beside Lady Bird Lake, the park consists of more than 10 miles of hiking and biking trails. Trails there are well-maintained and level, ensuring a smooth and safe bike ride.
Walnut Creek Park is located in far north Austin. At this park, there are multiple trails that connect to one main trail. This trail is very popular among bikers, specifically mountain bikers, and is often referred to as one of the best places for biking around Austin. The park is also very popular for its hiking trails, basketball courts, swimming pool, multiple softball diamonds, and large multi-purpose field.
Just north of Austin lies the city of Georgetown. Situated in downtown Georgetown is San Gabriel Park, home to the San Gabriel River, which runs through the middle of this park and is considered one of the most beautiful areas in the city. The park features a 1 mile and 3-mile-long trails for hiking and biking. For those residing outside of Austin, or simply looking a quieter, less heavily trafficked area for cycling, San Gabriel park is definitely one of the best places for biking near Austin.
Among factors that influence one’s decision to move cities are job opportunities, environment, infrastructure, educational institutions and the availability of everyday necessities. Austin provides all of that in addition to the added charm of a beautiful lake, many parks, several hiking trails, and most excitingly, some of the best places for biking in the nation. Thus, it is considered as paradise for the natives and visitors alike.
