A Look At Restorative Dentistry
As the name suggests, restorative dentistry basically deals with tooth restoration. Tooth restorations become imperative when a tooth get damaged due to reasons like infections, accidents, etc. The treatment procedure is suggested by the dentist after a thorough scan of your dental history. Teeth can get restored as its original structure through the aid of veneers or dental implants. These types of procedures related to restoration are getting very popular because they give effective results.
Teeth whitening also form a part of restorative dentistry. Discoloration of teeth might occur due to smoking, consumption of excessive amount of coffee, etc. With teeth whitening, one can restore the original shade of the teeth. Usually a bleaching agent is used for the purpose of teeth whitening. But with the foray of laser dentistry, just getting exposed to a laser beam would be sufficient for teeth whitening. The only drawback of laser whitening is that it is very expensive and without the coverage of any insurance plans, it becomes very difficult to afford them.
Restorative dentistry can be broadly divided into direct as well as indirect restorations. During the process of indirect restorative dentistry, materials such as porcelain and gold are used whereas for direct restorative dentistry, materials such as resins are used. With direct restorations the implants are done in the teeth directly. For indirect restorations, the product for implants are created in the lab, and then they area attached to your teeth. Veneers and crowns form a part of indirect restorations. Proper measurements are taken from the patients and then veneers or crowns are prepared by skilled technicians. Once the dentist has confirmed the size of the crown or veneer, then permanent bonding is done on the affected teeth.
With the introduction of restorative dentistry, many people have found the scope for treatment of complicated dental problems. Repair is also an essential part of restorative dentistry. When the enamel of a tooth starts to erode then the tooth becomes susceptible to cavities. To take care of such situations, fillings are done by the dentist. The problem of missing teeth can also be dealt with the help of restorative dentistry.
Implants are generally placed in order to compensate missing teeth. Generally implants are made up of titanium as the material is quite sturdy and it can last for many years. Broken teeth can be restored by either veneers or lumineers. The implantation of lumineers is cheaper than the cost of implanting veneers. Other procedures such as braces, bridges, are also used in restorative dentistry.
The dentist usually decides about the procedure which needs to be adopted for the patient depending on the level of deterioration of the patients teeth. With age, our teeth tend to get brittle and there are chances of cavity development as well. Therefore, restorative dentistry is an option which has to be considered by people at some point of their lives. Restorative dentistry will not only improve the look on your face, but it will also give you a new lease of life.
Hope this helps
