You really should consider buying a ferret hammock for your furry friend. Ferrets love to sleep and hide in soft dark spaces. On average, an adult ferret sleeps about 18 hours a day. For this reason, a ferret needs a nice comfortable area for sleeping and hiding. When humans sleep in a warmer room we use a light blanket, in a colder room we use a heavier blanket, this helps us to regulate our body temperature while we sleep so we are comfortable.

The same hold true for ferrets. Therefore, a ferret there should be two of bedding available to them in their cage. This way they are able to choose the place that feel more comfortable for sleeping. Ferrets beds are essential for healthy sleep. You ferret will not live a healthy life if it becomes uncomfortable and sleep is disturbed.

One bed option is a sleep sack, also called a nap sack, which provides extra warmth when needed. A sleep sack lies on the bottom of the cage and usually has one opening for the ferret to crawl into, although some sleep sacks have openings at both ends. Once the ferret is inside the sleep sack it is enveloped by warmed. Some sleep sacks even have a crinkling effect to them, this type of sack is appropriate for play.

The second bed option is a hammock. A hammock is suspended in mid air and has a pocketed space, which provides not only security but a partially open space. The open space allow the ferret to keep cool, some ferrets are is sensitive to heat. Hammocks are often available in various sizes and shapes. You have fleece, lined and unlined options.

Some hammocks are made larger so that they can fit multiple ferrets at the same time, because they love snuggling together while they sleep. Hammocks can be boot shaped or flat and may also provide a zippered front to use in adjusting the size of the opening. Hammocks allow the ferret to have more space to utilize. Hammocks can also be used as a safety measure. The hammock can used as a stepping stone for the ferret to make it way up to a higher level of a cage and prevent it from encountering a long fall.

It is important that any hammock or sleep sack, that you decide to purchase, is machine washable to prevent the spread of disease. Tightly woven fabric is the most durable and safe. If a hammock or sleep sack starts to fray or the seams separate, you must remove it from the cage. Once a sleep sack or hammock is damaged it becomes a danger to the ferret. Make sure that any hardware used, when installing the hammock, is safe for your ferret.

It is a excellent idea to buy a hammock for you ferret, because hammocks allow the ferret to be in a natural sleeping position, putting less pressure on the ferret's body. They also provide a safe haven and gives them a separate space to utilize for play.
