When it comes to holidays, Cuyo region is one of the favorite destinations, particularly the city of Mendoza. 5 Stars Hotels which offer first class accommodation, exclusive restaurants with delicate cuisine and exquisite wines, mix with lots of cultural activities and outdoors proposals to make this city a tourism pole. If you intend to get a close approach to the dynamics of this capital, a sightseeing tour can be the best way to know what Mendoza has to offer.
You can start in the afternoon, when the weather is usually warm; with mild temperatures close to 30 Celsius degrees. The first part of the tour is about the foundational area of the city. The central square is known as Pedro del Castillo, named after the founder of Mendoza, in 1561. This open area is placed right on the core of the urban centre. Some meters away you will notice the Franciscan ruins of the temple built by the Company of Jesus in 1731. It used to be the former cathedral of the colonial city until it was demolished by an earthquake in 1861.
You can reach the Foundational Art Museum just crossing the square. It opened its doors in 1993 and very antique pieces of ancient times are carefully held in reserve in there. The next stop is at the extensive and beautiful General San Martín Park, sited in the soul of modern Mendoza. It spreads over 420 hectares, and the locals use it to practice sports, rides and relaxing activities during summer nights. This park is a design of a French landscaping architect, and it was founded 1906. Architectural elements and nature come together gracefully to make this place even more versatile. Crowded streets and a huge variety of trees, the lake and the fountains are some of its typical features.
The Cerro de la Gloria is probably the best part of the tour. This hill is 960 meters high and it supports the monument in honor to the Army of the Andes on its top. The summit provides a fascinating view of the entire city, making possible to take incredibly beautiful pictures. The trip finishes with the arrival at La Cabaña, a traditional chocolate factory. There, you have the opportunity to learn all about the manufacturing process for chocolates and alfajores. Then, you get to taste most of these products and even buy some to enjoy on your way back to the Mendoza’s 5 Stars Hotel.
