Technology has made everything in our lives much easier. We can pay our bills online, communicate quickly and effectively with anyone we can imagine, and even order our groceries over the internet. Even when an ocean separates friends, it is simple to imagine they still live down the hall. Unfortunately, technology is not only at the fingertips of the honest and good-hearted. Computers are the new playgrounds for child predators, students text each other exam answers, and unfaithful spouses cheat without even leaving their loved one's sight.

Sometimes the infidelity is discreet. Meeting someone in a chat room or on a forum allows one to divulge secrets that they could not imagine telling someone in person. Hiding behind a screen and a false name erases the fear of having to interact with the other person outside the context in which both parties are comfortable. As the pseudo-relationship continues, it may seem that they are developing a sense of intimacy because they feel free to express themselves without judgment.

Other times the technology is not simply the sole location of adultery, but acts as the gateway to take it to the next level. Whether the affair begins on the internet or at the local coffee shop, personal cell phones and password protected email accounts allow the interaction to remain out of the prying eyes of a spouse or partner. Silenced ring tones don't wake up suspicions and texts can quietly send a bold message. The secrecy can be concealed even further by performing these acts on an office or library computer where the injured party is even further removed.

But despite technology being the root of many infidelity cases, it also desires to remedy its own evil. Hidden GPS trackers in a spouse's vehicle track their every turn, and computer programs can monitor every word typed and link clicked. The iPhone even has applications that can act as a personal spy that follows the suspected partner. Technology expands far beyond what we can imagine, but it has yet to develop a program that will repair a damaged relationship.
