The Remarkable Diamond and the Four Cs

Diamonds are the Rock Stars of Gem Stones. Diamonds are not the symbol of endless love for nothing. But, how do you know which one to select? Unlike the rock stars of the musical world where you simply select your favorite as they are your favorite, diamonds have a quartet of aspects that make each diamond to be really distinctive. The aspects have been nicknamed The Four Cs. How is that for a band name? These Four Cs are Cut, Carat, Color, and Clarity.

The First C is Cut.

This C is where humans take command. All of the other Cs are determined by nature, but cut is determined by the man with the tools. The proper cut can make the most of the right parts of the diamond, therefore finding the ultimate way to display it relative to the other Cs. My favorite part of what a diamond brings to people, is the play of color it makes in the daylight. That dance is choreographed by the stone cutter.

The Second C is Carat.

Carat refers to the weight of the diamond. Each carat is two hundred milligrams. The heavier the diamond, the more expensive it is. The normal engagement ring diamond can weigh between one and two carats making it between two hundred and four hundred milligrams. The Hope Diamond, exhibited at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, weighs 45.52 carats. That makes it nine thousand one hundred four milligrams! Can you imagine the cost to that diamond?

The Third C is Color.

Color refers to the color of the diamond itself. The majority of people think that a diamond is colorless and some of them are. Nearly all of the diamonds we get however, are various | several shades of white or yellow or even yellowish brown. Also you have the Fancies. The Fancies are diamonds that occur in an assortment of deep intense colors. The colors are determined by the numerous elements in the diamond. For instance, Boron creates a blue color and Nitrogen gives the diamond a more yellow hue.

The Fourth C is Clarity.

Clarity is precisely what it sounds like. Every diamond has some characteristics within it called inclusions. These inclusions vary in size, location, color and type. One diamond can appear to be brilliantly clear, where another diamond can appear to be a little bit murky. Those appearances and a very detailed grading system determine a diamond's clarity. And of course, the higher the clarity, the higher the value.

If diamonds really are a girls best friend, then she has to ponder that along with that one diamond comes four other acquaintances. All skilled rock stars has a team behind them helping them to form their masterpiece. They have a manager, a piano player, a drummer, and guitar player. Diamonds, being the Rock Stars of Gem Stones, have a team working to create their art as well. We should call it The Remarkable Diamond and the Four Cs!
