When building muscle the two key nutrients to focus on are carbohydrates and protein.Being as these nutrients are already part of most people's diets it is just a matter of how much and which ones. It is important to go for the healthiest proteins and carbohydrates you can find.
Protein:
When trying to build muscle protein is of course essential. An intake of 1 to 1.5 grams per pound of bodyweight is a great starting point. Chicken breast is a healthy low fat way to get protein. When building muscle fish and egg whites are also healthy proteins. Another high protein food that is all too often overlooked is beef liver. It is important not to get bored with our food choices. Combining a variety of these healthy proteins should help that.
Carbs:
Carbohydrates are also essential in building muscle. To provide the energy required to build muscle carbohydrates must be utilized. Understanding the differences between complex and simple carbs is essential. To get the most from carbs it is important to know when to eat which. Simple carbohydrates are best utilized post workout combined with a lean protein. This can help post workout recuperation greatly.
