It is advisable to label your flashlight with your name and address, especially if you travel with it a lot to other places. It is best to store your flashlight in a clean, dry, and cool area away from any harsh temperatures. You can store them at different points in your home so that when there is an emergency, there is one available close at hand.

Always have a fresh set of new batteries stored next to the flashlight so that you can change the batteries when needed. If the batteries are rechargeable, keep the batteries recharged, but don't allow your flashlight to be plugged in for extended periods of time continuously. Check batteries periodically to make sure they work.

Third, many people forget to care for the o-ring of the flashlight that not only protects the bulb, but also protects the batteries and inner mechanisms from moisture and damage. You can buy a silicone grease that you can use to lube the o-rings periodically to keep them airtight. Lubing them will increase their use-life for more than you may expect.
