If you want to attract wildlife to your garden or if you want to make the decor of your garden more attractive then you might want to install preformed garden ponds. There are inexpensive kits which will allow you to easily change the location of the pond should you wish to do so. The preformed garden ponds, as well as the garden pond liner, are created using a composite material.

When you get ready to install your pond, the first thing you have to do is dig a hole where your pond will be and then you put your garden pond liner into the hole. Afterword, you will be able to decorate the pond by placing rocks, various kinds of plants, and maybe a log or two around the pond to give it a more natural appearance.

Anytime you install a preformed garden pump you also have to include a pump to circulate the water. For this reason, you may want to put your pond close to your house so you won't have to use as much wire. However, if you don't mind spending some extra money, you can place your pond wherever you like. Whenever you use electricity around water there is a chance of getting a shock, so I suggest you install a ground fault interrupter, or GFI, into the pump's circuitry.

To prevent rainwater runoff from running into your pond, inspect the contour of your land. Don't put your pond in a part of the yard which is lower than the rest. If you do, chemicals from your lawn, such as fertilizers, may be washed into your pond and cause your pond to be ruined. Putting some thought into the location of your pond can prevent you from needing to relocate it after installation. Depending on the location of the plants in your garden, you might have to move some of the plants to a different part of your garden away from the location of your pond. Do you have any large trees or tree roots growing where you plan on putting your pond? If so, you will probably need to relocate your garden pond liner to a different location or else cut the tree roots.

When it comes to actually installing the pond liner first put the liner on the ground where your pond is going to be. Next you will need to hammer into the ground some vertical stakes around the outside of the liner. Now, using some string or rope, create an outline of the liner's shape by putting the string or rope around the stakes.

Take your pond liner and place it to the side of the hole out of the way and start digging the hole. As you dig the hole you may come across some rocks or other sharp objects. If you do make sure you remove them so they can't damage your pond liner. As you dig the hole you want to keep the sides of the hole vertical and not sloping. When you finish digging your hole place the liner into the hole. Take a straight section of wood and put it across the pond liner.

Put your carpenter's level on the wood and check the level of the pond. The pond needs to be level in both directions so after you check the level in one direction turn the wood 90 degrees and check the level in the other direction too. Now put some sand in the bottom and sides of the hole. Make sure you pack it in good and tight and then check the level of the pond again to make sure it is still level.

When you are done with that you can start to decorate your new garden pond. You can plant some vegetation around it and place a few stones to give it a more natural appearance. An easy and inexpensive way to make preformed garden ponds look great at night is to use solar powered lights.

Since they are solar powered, there are no wires to hide and you can easily move them around the pond until you get it to look just right. The fact that they won't add to your electricity bill is a plus. Some people like to place a layer of pebbles in the bottom of their new pond to give it a more natural look.
