There are many important considerations which need to be taken into account before buying a radiator. These will help you make sure that you are making a good purchase and are not wasting your money.

First of all which type should you buy? If you buy radiators with fins (either on the back or in case of double, in between panels) you would be able to use smaller products. This is because the fins increase the surface area thus providing more area for contact with cold air, thus getting more amount of air heated. Additionally, fins also provide convection which aids in the air circulation.

You should also decide whether you want a single panel instrument or a double panel one. The latter would be more expensive but will also provide more heating.

The next thing you need to consider is the heating provided. Before that you need to calculate how much heating is required for your room to remain comfortably warm in the coldest of days. If the room already had a radiator and you are replacing it then there is no difficulty. You could buy one which provides as much heating as the old one did. Or you could buy two radiators in place of one.

If you have a previously unheated room or a newly constructed room where you want to have heating then the process is a bit more complicated. This is because you have to take into account the heat loss as well. This is done by counting the windows and doors, the chances of keeping them open, and the direction in which they face. This of course means that you would need to put a lot of effort into those calculations. An easier option would be to consult a heating engineer.

Make sure that you have adequate space before buying a radiator. Otherwise you will have to make space or go for some other heating option.

For bathrooms or rooms with basins you can make use of towel radiators. These have rails which provide heating. You could hang your towels on these rails thus keeping them warm. They are also called towel rails. Towel radiators also act as decorative fixtures since they come with really good finishing. They may not provide adequate heat though. Hence you may want to consider buying two.

Do remember the valves without which you cannot install your radiators properly. If you keep these considerations in mind you won’t have much of a problem after buying.
