Rapping Beats

Wussup! Need rapping beats but not sure what to buy with so many choices? Read this article to learn the SECRETS to choosing HIT hiphop beats, r&b beats, pop beats and rap beats and instrumentals. Whether you buy Soundclick beats or beats from local producers don’t sleep on this info!

This is DatPaki aka Lyrical Militant from PBE Music – I’m a producer/MC/Songwriter. This is the first article in a series of tips on how to work at being a successful independent Urban Music Artist. My hope is that I can help out some of the new up-and-coming rappers and singers start their urban music career off right! If you follow the tips in this series, you’ll be a BIG step ahead of your competition! Most music artists never think about this stuff!

Q1: How do I choose the right hiphop beats or r&b beats to make a HIT song?

A: This is a topic that could be dissected for days. Making a hit song is not as easy as it seems when you listen to the radio. There are some commonly used structures involved for both production (beats, etc.) and songwriting (lyrics, hooks, etc). These really vary depending on the type of music you make (hip-hop vs. R&B vs. Pop). It is very useful to Google "songwriting" and learn everything you can about the craft. INVEST TIME IN YOURSELF! This is your career!

The best place you can start RIGHT NOW is by listening to the radio or BET (even if you don’t like it) and studying the type of music that gets played most. Also check out sites like HipHopDX, AllHipHop.com and World Star HipHop. Listen to what’s on there and pay attention to how many views/listens each type of song gets. Listen for the types of hiphop and rapping beats all the big artists choose, how they structure their songs and how they write their songs. Next, when you’re browsing through rap beats and r and b instrumentals to buy online choose instrumentals that you feel are similar to the most popular songs you’ve researched. BUT WAIT: It’s important NOT to be a copy-cat. People WILL notice. Buy beats that are similar to things you hear on the radio, but have their own twist. Remember, you want to strive to do what’ll be hot tomorrow, not what’s hot today.

Some things to think about when you are ready to download rap beats and r and b instrumentals include the beat’s length – stay under four minutes at the absolute maximum. Make sure your hiphop beats and r&b beats get into the chorus quickly (no long drawn out intros), and make sure the beats and instrumentals you download are dynamic, and evolving (changes over time). Follow those guidelines and all the beats and instrumentals you choose for your single, album or mixtape will be HIT-POTENTIAL!
