Jack Herer was neither a law maker nor a wealthy man. However, he had a very rare combination that comprised of people skills, scholarly diligence, endless curiosity and brilliant intellect. This is what enabled him to become the force whose impact we are just starting to feel.

Jack really helped to push for the legalization of cannabis. Even though he just passed on recently, his words and activities continue to be felt even today. His book, ‘The Emperor Wears No Clothes’ was actually the main landmark that came to ignite the campaign for cannabis.

This hero of hemp and cannabis work tirelessly to push for the legalization of marijuana and hemp in America. Had it not been for his work, it would have been very unlikely that decree would have been enjoyed in California and elsewhere where voters have agreed to legalize the aforementioned drugs.

As is usual with the same star status as Jack, his life was filled with intriguing contradictions which helped to add weight to the message he was expressing to the world. He started using cannabis at the age of 30. He then became a very vigorous zealot. He wished that more people would be able to experience the epiphany he was undergoing.

Herer then immersed himself to the study of everything concerned with pot. He helped to invent various accessories for smoking pot and also in the opening of the first store for hemp in the modern world.

In 1973 Herer and his partner at the smoke shop launched another campaign for the legalization of marijuana. He continued with the fight for this legalization for the rest of his life. In fact, he finally passed on as a result of a heart attack that he suffered a couple of minutes after he delivered a rather impassioned speech in September of 2009 during the Portland Hempstalk festival.

Even though Herer was not to see the day when his vision would be realized fully, he never gave up on his dream. He lived and dressed like hippies for the latter days of his life. He respected everyone and he received unwavering support from the masses when he went out to get his sheets signed so that he could get his various initiatives passed.

He was relentless about legalization. His magnetic personality helped him to fight for what he believed in and he was never shy about having to go out to promote the use and advocate for weed to be legalized.

Today, Herer is synonymous with the legalization of pot. A strain of cannabis has even been named for him. He never stopped advocating for the smoking of marijuana. He was mainly fired up because the beneficial cannabis sativa plant was criminalized as was hemp.

To conclude, the Hero of Hemp underwent a lot to see that his dreams came to fruition. In 1981, he was arrested on being a trespasser on a piece of federal property which he had done to collect signatures to help in the ballot initiative for California. However, in the long run, his fight bore fruit and now cannabis is legal in the state.
