After our midsection, the next part of our bodies that have the propensity to store fat are our thighs. This can be a very frustrating experience for women, especially, when we have to wear short skirts or dresses for nights out or even on days when we just want to laze around on the beach in skimpy shorts and bikinis. Thus, one of the most sought-after workouts are those that focus on slimming down the thighs.
One of the most basic thigh-slimming regimens around is walking. Unlike jogging or running, walking does not bulk up your legs but slims it (and your overall body) instead. Begin by walking at least 15 minutes a day and increase it to 30 minutes gradually. A pedometer is a good investment to get as research has shown that it does not only measure the steps you've taken, it also actually encourages you to start walking. If you're up for it 10,000 steps a day will not only slim down your thighs, it will have a beneficial effect on your overall health.
For toned thighs, do workout exercises that give your whole thighs a good workout. Bicycles, leg lifts and stability ball exercises are good choices for exercises that slim your legs. However, make sure that you do these correctly and with the guidance of your instructor. Otherwise, you'll end up with bulky instead of slimmer thighs.
Enrolling yourself in a Pilates or Yoga class will also introduce you to exercises that will give you long and lean thighs and a great butt to boot. Both these exercise regimens have the proven advantage of not bulking you up, but of giving you toned muscles that make your body long and lean. If you can't enroll in one, then get hold of home exercise videos on these workouts, but make sure you follow proper technique to avoid any injuries.
All these exercises, however, will go to naught if you keep on guzzling those cans of soda, slathering heaping servings of butter on your bread or going for rich mayo dressings on your salad. For slimmer thighs, you've got to have slimmer portions of your carbohydrates and fats. Eat more fruits and veggies, drink more water. Excess food and drink (alcohol included) will either get deposited on you belly or on your thighs or both. Some people have a very natural tendency to store fat in the thighs, so if you're one of these, it's best to take stock of your diet and start making wiser selections on the food you eat. If you really want slim looking legs, then you've got to really be strict about what you eat.
Finally, when all else fails, you could always consider surgical enhancements like liposuction. But always make this a last option, if at all. Those who have lost a lot of weight but continue to have extra flab around the thigh area that are unsightly to look at or those who really have a natural tendency to store fat might want to look into liposuction. There are also non-invasive cosmetic surgery procedures to slim down thighs. It's best to consult a certified cosmetic surgeon to figure out the method that's best for you.
