The world of cross stitching produces elegant and elaborate designs such that beginners are awestruck by the amount of work they have ahead of them. Here are a couple of good tips to get you started with cross stitching.

The first thing you should do is learn as much as possible about the craft before you can buy your own supplies. The Internet is a great resource for beginners in cross stitching, so look up the terminologies and techniques on cross stitching. Once you get the "book knowledge" done, you can now bring in your creativity to come up with new colors and designs.

When looking for cross stitch kits to begin your project, always start with simple and clear designs. Start with a flower design before you can create a landscape image with your cross stitches. Remember that it takes quite a lot of time before you are comfortable with the needles, thread and cloth before you can finish simple designs in a day. Take your time and enjoy the process of stitching while you’re at it.

If your kit comes with a chart that you must follow, there are many ways you can use to keep track of the completed parts as you stitch. First, make a photocopy of the design so that you can use the original later, and then use a different and visible colored pen to trace the areas you have completed on the chart to avoid repetition or accidents. You can also get colored pencils to help you indicate the colors of the chart on the photocopy, but always keep the original chart close by for reference.

You may take to cross stitching very well, such that you want to carry your kit everywhere you go. Find a suitable and durable bag where your threads, patterns, cloth and other equipment will be easy to carry. It can be something sizeable that fits in your regular handbag, or you can carry it separately. Then, for the sake of working with clean and sweat-free hands, always carry some wipes with you to use before continuing with your stitching.

Do leave room for your own ideas in cross stitching, and who knows, you may discover some ingenious tips of your own to share with your friends!
