WOW Mage Leveling & Quest Guide

Good going, you are playing a Mage in world of warcraft. If you are unfamiliar with playing a Mage in world of warcraft This info will be very valuable to you when starting out. Here we will give a general overview of basic Mage leveling and some points on getting your Mage on it's way too the higher levels A.S.A.P.

If you have played other fantasy games that have mage's then you have a good idea of how to play the world of warcraft Mage. The Mage is typically weak in stature but strong in spell casting. The world of warcraft Mage fits this description, but the powerful magic available to the WOW mage makes it no slouch when it comes to battling foes.

The Mage character class should stay clear of any hand to hand fighting, it is designed purely for fighting from a distance. The Mage can deal out incredible damage but without any self healing capabilities the Mage does not bode well under fire. Some great benefits that a Mage provides for their party are conjuring of food and water, they have awesome offensive spell casting skills and a really cool ability to teleport themselves and their party to world of warcraft capital cities.

Racial traits you should review for your WOW Mage:

As I mentioned before, the Mage has no self healing abilities on its own so the draenei race is certainly a good one for the Mage as you will have Gift of the Naaru to use for healing.

The troll race has the ability of regeneration which is not as good as the draeneis' Gift of the Naaru but is certainly beneficial.

I find that the blood elf makes for a nice Mage using its Arcane Torrent and Arcane Affinity it can do some serious damage.

The gnomes ability to replenish mana with Expansive Mind is great for a Mage and they can get away from trouble using their Escape Artist talent.

Humans specialize in the sword and mace which can't be used by the Mage so they make for a fair Mage at best.

The forsaken race only helps the Mage when battling a priest or warlock and little else so I don't recomend them unless you really want a challenge.

When first starting out, with whatever kind of character you have, don't over complicate things. For the first several levels simply get a feel of your character and what you are able to do. Whenever possible don't stay in the heat of battle too long.

Fight from a distance in the beginning using spells and long range weapons. But don't misinterpret this as just fooling around. Focus your efforts on questing and be sure not to miss any quests. You don't want to miss out on any quests during your first several levels, so make sure you do them all.

Learn,learn,learn.

While in any given zone of world of warcraft get all the lessons of any trainers available. And don't forget to look into what professions you might be interested in pursuing. Don't take choosing your professions lightly, start learning about them early on. Different character class and race combinations will need different professions and secondary skills, so check into which will help you the most. Most players don't think about getting a mount until much latter, but I suggest planning ahead and saving some gold so you can get a mount as soon as you hit level 20.

Some people may disagree but I find the Mage to be one of the easier classes to play at the beginning levels. True the Mage is very frail and can't handle much damage but the Mage starts off with Fireball which is a very good range attack. Also the Mage starts off with Frost Armor which is a great self buff making leveling easier. When the Mage uses these two spells together it will make leveling go much faster.
