Sticking to your New Year's Resolutions when you have Bipolar Disorder

Do you believe in making New Year's Resolutions? If so, did you make one or more of them. Many people will determine to lose weight or get out of debt, which are two very common resolutions. However, if you have Bipolar Disorder, you may need to get back to some basics like taking your meds at the same time each day, getting enough rest, or drinking enough water to compensate for the dehydrating effects of our medication. Well you get the idea. The real question here is how do I stick to my resolutions or maybe I just need to start over again.

Don't beat yourself up if you have already gotten off the tread mill or abandoned the diet, or stopped doing any of your other resolutions. Now is the time to dig in and come back with new resolve. If you can keep up a behavior for 30 days, you will have developed a habit. Once a behavior is a habit it is easier to maintain. That means if you can keep it up until the middle of February you will have established a new healthy habit. If you are still on track with your resolutions, you are about 3 weeks away from making it a habit.

In my new eBook, Beyond Bipolar Madness: Moving from Surviving to Thriving with Bipolar Disorder, I discuss the development of habits on a slow, but steady pace. In the eBook, you'll also learn the basics of Bipolar Survival. In this chapter, I discuss all the main things that you need to do to survive our illness. However, I move way beyond that in the rest of the eBook. The Health Hut chapter address several areas of what it takes to live a healthy life. Handling relationships when you have bipolar disorder is addressed in the chapter called "All the Love and Belonging You Can Handle". Increasing your knowledge and the benefits of doing it are addressed in the chapter called "Brain Power". I also discuss how to Be the best employee, and becoming a financial genius, which gives you 4 ways to look at debt reduction and how to do the math. Living a full life by including new and varied experiences is also part of thriving. The chapter called "Home Sweet Home" shows you how to make your home into a sanctuary. No matter what you believe or don't believe, growing spiritually is a part of thriving. "Graduation" is a chapter on pulling it all together. I also include a Interview sheet for you to find the Psychiatrist or Counselor that will work best with you. One of the appendices is a Medication and Mood journal for finding the right combination of medications for you. You will also find a relationship inventory, an example of an Excel spreadsheet for paying off debt, and a strategy map.
