Sticking to your New Year's Resolutions when you have Bipolar Disorder
Do you believe in making New Year's Resolutions? If so, did you make one or more of them. Many people will determine to lose weight or get out of debt, which are two very common resolutions. However, if you have Bipolar Disorder, you may need to get back to some basics like taking your meds at the same time each day, getting enough rest, or drinking enough water to compensate for the dehydrating effects of our medication. Well you get the idea. The real question here is how do I stick to my resolutions or maybe I just need to start over again.
Don't beat yourself up if you have already gotten off the tread mill or abandoned the diet, or stopped doing any of your other resolutions. Now is the time to dig in and come back with new resolve. If you can keep up a behavior for 30 days, you will have developed a habit. Once a behavior is a habit it is easier to maintain. That means if you can keep it up until the middle of February you will have established a new healthy habit. If you are still on track with your resolutions, you are about 3 weeks away from making it a habit.
