General Uses of Salvia

It has been a practice from the very olden days as to use herbal plants for the purpose of curing diseases as they contain some medicinal properties in them. Salvia Divinorum is an herb which is known for its multi usage properties. It is not only used as a medicinal plant but also is more famous as a plant of aesthetic belief. Salvia Divinorum comes under the family of herbs and is available abundantly throughout the year in a family better known as "Mint family". Out of some 500 species of plants which are available in the hills of Sierra Mazateca of Oaxaca, Salvia divinorum is one of them. The plants of Salvia Divinorum grow in the form of cones of about a height of 1 meter with large wide leaves. The stems of these plants are hollow and square in size with flowers of white color and purple calyx.

The plant has a very old aesthetic belief of being the incarnation of Virgin Mary and for this reason the Mazatecs worship this plant and avoid any type of harm or destruction to the plant. Utmost care is taken against trampling of leaves of the plant during picking up of the leaves. The leaves are use for divination activities and also for curing some of the mysterious diseases. Particularly these leaves are used for curing diseases like headaches and constipation ailments. These leaves basically act as energy boosters and give instant energy to tired and restless persons. The leaves are also used for smoking. When taken in intense quantity the leaves give worldly pleasure and reduce the reaction time of a person. Freshly crushed salvia leaves contain a chemical called Salvinorin-A which when inhaled mixes with blood leads to some overwhelming effects and the person exhibits psychic behavior. The most important thing of smoking salvia leaves is that it is neither harmful like tobacco nor injurious to health but gives intense pleasure as that of smoking tobacco. Its leaves are of medicinal importance and cure all type of stomach ailments. Salvia leaves can be used for chewing purposes and its special type of paste is prepared in home. Freshly dried leaves are crushed using a blender and then it is mixed with several chemical and stirred well to mix it up. Then it is allowed to settle in a dark place for some hours and then the paste is ready to be chewed.
