CGI - London companies can give your business an edge

CGI, or computer generated imagery, has come of age in the last few years. Not so long ago, CGI was either a hugely expensive or poorly-rendered art, with the images and films produced with it reflecting its infancy and the processing power needed to create anything convincing. But now, computers and software have advanced to the point where anyone with the right skills and technology can pull off something amazingly lifelike; in fact, these techniques are becoming so integrated into the mainstream that it is becoming increasingly more difficult to spot the difference between reality and CGI. London boasts many companies that can add a real edge to your media with the use of CGI.

Impressive movie-grade special effects aren’t the only benefits of CGI London companies can enjoy. CGI has many more routine, if no less impressive applications. For example, architects regularly employ CGI specialists in their preliminary studies and drawings to understand how a building will interact with its surroundings and to be able to anticipate some of the potential issues that might arise. These representations will typically be in 3D and will allow 360-degree viewing from any perspective desired – including those that would actually not be possible in real life. Angles, elevations, light sources and other variables can be adjusted, thereby enabling alterations to be made to the computer model and the designs before building even starts – a far cheaper and neater solution than changing the designs when problems become apparent in construction.

Other companies that would be interested in the kind of CGI London design companies offer include medical firms and teaching hospitals, since it is often useful to employ computer-generated anatomical models to demonstrate principles of medicine and anatomy without using an actual cadaver or skeleton. In other medical applications, patients requiring certain types of operation may be modelled with the use of CGI technology in order to tailor the surgery to their requirements. Two examples are that of a knee and heart-valve replacement; a highly detailed representation of the replacement part and the patient’s body can be created by using digitised CT scans, allowing surgeons to plan the operation carefully without the need for invasive treatment before it is necessary. The use of such patient-specific models is known as computer-assisted surgery.

These CGI applications are becoming more and more routine. CGI London companies create products that almost everyone will be familiar with, such as adverts and film clips used on TV and by companies online, as well as stills. In some cases, these have now reached a level where they are literally indistinguishable from real life. In other cases, CGI can be used to enormous visual effect by creating life-like characters and objects that are clearly not real – perhaps best known in animation films, in which the laws of physics are replicated (to some degree), but the characters depicted are fantasy, alien or subtly-altered human ones.
