Everyone knows about family vacation resorts for families that you can take advantage of during the summer months, but maybe a family might want to take advantage of some downtime during the cold winter months as well. This is a great activity for families to take advantage of during the children's winter school breaks, or during the cold months when families decide that they need to get away from the snowy cold and miserable environments that they live in. It's particularly good for them to go on family winter vacations if the parents haven't been able to take a break during the holiday season, and the only time they can take a family vacation are during months such as January or February.

Going on family vacations during the colder months can actually be a smart idea for parents. For one thing, when people travel on what is known in the travel industry as the "off-months", they can save a lot of money. Instead of spending inflating prices on travel like people do in the summertime, they can use the extra money for what they really need it for, such as food and amenities, while they're on vacation. Here is a look at some ideas for families to go on vacation during the winter months.

One awesome place for families to explore when it's cold outside is an indoor water park called the Great Wolf Lodge. This resort actually is located in areas all over America in states such as New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, and other states. For a complete list of locations, one should go to the website for the Great Wolf Lodge, and there they'll find a map of locations all over the continental U.S. The Lodge is a wonderful place that is very much centered on the activities for children. As mentioned earlier, this is an indoor water resort. But the suites are also magnificent and worthy of mention. They have an outdoor camping theme and they have areas for the kids to sleep in and enjoy their stay. For example the kids areas are based upon caves, log cabins, and tents. The kids can sleep in their beds and watch TV, while the grown-ups sleep on king, queen, or on sleeper sofa beds. The rooms come primarily with semi private and private living rooms, and they are designed to create a comfortable, happy, and laid-back experience for the whole family.

For the family that wants to travel to warmer locations, there are a couple of options. They can sail on a Caribbean cruise. There are cruise lines that are especially targeted and marketed to families that have children, such as the Carnival Cruise Lines. Carnival does a lot of heavy marketing for the whole family, and with regards to winter vacations, they marketed towards families with children so that the children can participate in specialized activities just for them, while the grown-ups can hang out and do their own thing.

A few more ideas for families that lets them partake in warmer weather activities, are California or Florida. Of course there is Disneyland and Disney World. However, if the family wants to ski and enjoy the snow, there's a variety of ski lodges that cater to families, particularly in states such as Colorado, Utah, and in California.
