Cat dandruff is a common problem for pet owners and their pets. It is uncomfortable and unsightly for the cat, but it is also a common cause of allergies in humans. The dandruff can be caused by many different reasons, such as skin problems, the inability of the cat to groom properly, and season changes. What is the best way to get rid of cat dandruff? Listed below are a few of the most popular.

Brush your cat regularly. Frequent brushing can help your cat eliminate dead skin cells and loose fur. This is especially important for cats that are too old or obese to groom themselves properly. Brushing their coat on a daily basis will help them feel better and give you both some bonding time.

Bathe your cat regularly. This is more difficult than it sounds since most cats do not enjoy water in the least. If your cat simply refuses to let you bathe them, you can get the same effect by using a damp washcloth with a dollop of pet shampoo. Some shampoos can dry out your cat's skin causing even more dandruff. Be sure to choose a shampoo that has a moisturizer, and rinse or wipe the shampoo out of your cat's fur. Leaving some in can also cause drying of the skin.

Check your cat's diet. Diet is a big factor in the health of your cat, including his skin. Similar to humans, cats need some Omega 3 fatty acids in their diet to keep their skin healthy and hydrated. Some foods include this supplement or you can give your cat a small amount of fish oil. If you have any questions, be sure to ask your veterinarian for recommendations.

Make sure your cat is drinking plenty of water. Like humans, cats need to stay hydrated in order to have good overall health and healthy skin. You should monitor your cat's water intake daily. You should also change the water on a regular basis. Cats tend to not like old or warm water. There are pet water fountains that can help with this.

The above steps should help you to get rid of dandruff in your pet's coat. If the above tips do not help, you should consult with your vet to ensure your cat does not have an illness. In most households, pets are a big part of the family. Be certain to monitor their well-being and ensure that they are healthy and happy.
