1. First and fore most, decide on the subject you want to study. Do an analysis, look up US Bureau of Labor Statistics, look into possible careers and research which career offers the most bright future.

2. If you plan on studying from home, then find a technical college which is nearby. If you are planning to go away from school then keep in mind the cost of living away from home, cost of travelling, etc. Before planning to move away from home take a tour of the college and residence.

3. Before getting admission in a college check whether the college is really accredited or not. There are many possible ways to check accreditation of a college, one of them are U.S. Department of Education’s database of accredited postsecondary institutions and programs. You can easily find out whether your college is certified or not here.

4. To check if the college is accredited by a real accrediting agency see U.S. Department of Education’s list of accrediting agencies. You never know which one is fake.

5. Check the facilities and clubs available in the college. If you are a sporty person, check for competitive teams and lessons available. Interested in journalism, check if they have a college paper.

6. If you are in need of financial aid, check if there are any financial aids available and also about the school loans at the end of the program. College and career is a great website where you can find scholarships available at every college and also find a college near you.

7. Make a list of colleges you have chosen and also write the pros and cons of each college. Trust me it makes deciding easier.

8. You can also study online. There are a lot of colleges that offers online degrees. Now-a-days employers also give values to online degrees but you should first check if the college you want to study online in is really accreditated or not. You might end up wasting all your money.

9. If the college only cares about your wallet and not your qualifications then it’s probably better not to study in that college.

10. Last but not the least, you should meet in person with the admission representative. Don’t agree or sign anything on initial visit. Gather information – exact tuition, books, equipments and fees. Learn about student loans and interest rates. Always keep in mind that admission representatives might say things that are not reality.
