Setting up of an ecommerce domain is just a single step in commencing business online. There are many other tasks you have to undertake simultaneously in order to make transactions as smooth as possible for all buyers. The major one entails accepting payments online. This is one of the most significant aspects of online trade. Customers expect safe, convenient and fast methods of payment and checkout from any dealer. Online traders can provide all these using three trading tools. They include:

Shopping Cart

This is a tool or component of your trading domain that manages transactions. It is normally a content management system that stores product catalogs, monitors sales and collects database driven content from your website. The cart is an essential tool for all websites that conduct financial transactions through the internet. It assists buyers to keep track of their purchases, compare and confirm prices, discounts and other crucial aspects of an online transaction.

Merchant Account

A merchant account is essential when you are involved in online retail. It enables the dealer to transfer money deposited online into your bank account. A merchant account is easy to open and access from your local bank. However, most of these accounts only deal with specific credit card companies. A large number of Merchant Accounts for instance, will accept only Visa and MasterCard Credit payments. You have to open separate accounts with American Express, Discover or other Credit Card issuers.

You will be required to sign a contract with the Merchant Account provider with numerous clauses and guidelines. This is necessary to prevent online fraud and money laundering activities. For example, you might be required to provide an estimate figure of how much you expect to make in say, three months. Be extra vigilant when setting up the Merchant account. Choose an established and reputable bank with a robust track record. Some Companies have been known to go under and vanish with trader’s money.

Getaways

Your online retail domain must also have a getaway facility that allows you to accept Credit Card and electronic check payments directly from buyers. This includes all the major credit, debit, signature and gift cards. Getaway services can also be obtained directly from your bank. The facility is meant to connect the cart feature with your Merchant Account without any hitches. It also serves as a risk management facility for your transactions.

The payment process is an important aspect of online trade. It can either make or break potential deals in your retail domain. It is therefore imperative to ensure that the process is direct, smooth and safe for customers. The Payment process commonly entails a Merchant Account, Getaway and Cart facilities to ensure it is smooth and hassle free for buyers.
