Thank goodness we live in a time when we have choices for replacing teeth that are missing. There weren't many options available in the past, and the options that were available were not very practical or functional nor did they look very good. The most popular method of replacing missing teeth has been the use of false teeth because dentures can easily fill-in the missing teeth. A better solution to missing teeth is is to get teeth implants. The idea is becoming more and more popular and works especially well with people who have just one missing tooth. Teeth implants are a permanent solution which doesn't necessitate any maintenance, and can give you a beautiful smile that you'll have for a lifetime and not have to worry about tooth decay.
Titanium metal is what teeth implants are made up of. The procedure includes fusing these false teeth into a person's jawbone through bone grafts. The best part is that the teeth implants won't slip, rattle or fall out letting others know your teeth aren't real. Strength and durability are two of the best advantages of teeth implants over other dental treatments such as dentures and bridges.
Teeth implants can be more costly than dentures but despite dentures being somewhat durable, they will probably need replacing every five to six years so the cost issue evens out. Implants won't slip the way dentures do and a person won't have problems eating or speaking like they do with dentures. Teeth implants will give you a natural appearance and you will achieve better health.
You will need to meet with your dentist many times to make sure you'll get the teeth implants that are the correct size and color to look like the rest of your teeth. The procedure for being fitted for them isn't simple nor easy but the time spent will have a pay off if you can hang in there.
Teeth implants require same day surgery that can be done in the dentist's office but on occasion patients require the implants to be installed over two stages. When this is necessary the first surgery requires making bone grafts and being fitted with a healing abutment or "cover screw" which is integrated with the underlying bone. The patient is fitted with the dental implant attaching it to the healing abutment in the second surgery.
The success rate of dental implants and surgery is nearly 95% but if there is bone loss, or the teeth implants move or are lost it's a failure. Sometimes implant failure is due to bonegraft failing to fuse with the implant, or to put in simple terms, the implant is rejected by
the body.
The dentist's skill isn't ususally the cause of teeth implants failure. The fact is that the body's reaction to a foreign object is a more likely cause of failure. There is also more failure if the patient smokes because of restricted blood flow and raised blood pressure in smokers. These conditions cause problems with the body's ability to heal from any type of surgery. Teeth implants may be the best way to replace missing teeth, if you're not a smoker, in spite of the extra cost beacuse of the increased convenience and more beautiful smile.
Teeth implants in my opinion are a more convenient way to replace your missing teeth.
