Roulette is a game that has its origins in the old continent, in France, and the current layout of the table is the one that was used back in 1842. When playing roulette, you must spread your chips around the betting table in order to try to pick the winning number once the wheel has stopped spinning. You also have other interesting options such as picking either red or black or if the winning ball is going to be even or odd.

Now, when it comes to the wheel, there are two kinds, the American, which has 38 numbers (0 to 37 and double zero) and a house edge of 5.26%. The European does not play the double zeros; therefore, on this type of roulette you will only find slots numbered from 0 to 36, and because of the lack of the 00, the house edge diminishes to 2.63.

In this game, you do not bet with your money directly, as you need to exchange it for chips, and to avoid any possible disputes, each player receives a set of chips of a different color. Such chips can only be utilized in the roulette table and cannot be transfer to other gaming tables, and they should be exchange for regular casino chips once you are done playing.

In roulette, there is a minimum and a maximum bet, though the exact amount depends on each casino and an important factor to notice is that you cannot combine an outside and an inside bet in order to meet the table’s minimum. Let’s say that the less you can bet is $5, so, these five dollars should be placed outside or inside, you cannot bet three dollars inside and two more outside.

Bet types:

The betting table has two areas; the one inside is the one with all of the numbers, which is divided in twelve rows of 3 numbers, making it 3 vertical columns with the zero and the double zero at the top. And the one outside has different boxes for colors and more.

Inside: here you can bet straight up, which means to put chips on a determined number, and splits, which means that you can put your chips in the middle of two numbers and get half the earnings of a bet in a determined number. Here you are paid 35 to 1, and 17 to 1 in splits.

Outside: Here you can wager on colors, either placing your chips in the red or black colors, or on columns, odd/even and a set of group numbers, and when you place a bet here, you are paid even.
