Speedy industrialisation has stimulated the preparation and execution of green environments. And what better way to bring about such a transformation than by doing it through garden spaces. To produce such a change, the concept of garden design has moved across built up communities in a large scale. It is the art of putting a nice shape and layout to the trees and plants in an area to maximise its attractiveness and environmentally friendly appeal. This can be done by garden owners themselves or by landscape gardeners.

These days, garden design is being seen as an integral part of modern day housing. There are lots of constraints of space when homes are being built. Multi-storeyed buildings, high rises, narrow roads, condominiums, etc, are making their mark so that people have enough space to live as populations increase. Amidst these constraints, the need of a garden design has to be considered and executed to precision. The experts who are closely involved in the design process need to have a high level of skill in horticulture layout and landscape design.

Many gardeners are taking classes to become proficient in this area. Household owners are also becoming involved in garden designing these days and certain styles like oxford garden design have sprung up. Much of this is attributed to the undersized space of housing in over crowded cities. Also, the pastime of gardening is increasing more into the design aspect as well. An addition of garden design is found in the large housing complexes and colonies that are being newly built.

Real estate promoters and builders are building houses and residences to people with built in garden spaces, which are produced to have fountains, small walking tracks, plants and even playing areas for the children. An integral part of the garden design is a continuous monitoring on the growth of the shrubs and plants so they are cut at the appropriate times without allowing them grow out of control. Another important aspect of such a garden design process is the knowledge of the trees and plants that grow well in the climatic conditions present, without allowing any harmful or parasitic weeds to grow.

The work of garden design is therefore not an easy job. The inputs of skill of diverse professionals such as architects, horticulturists and environmentalists should be welcomed. Be it the community parks, roads or the private gardens in houses, the need of a well designed garden are of utmost importance in the present situation as our cities become more concrete. Considering the speed in which pollution is happening in industrial cities of today, the garden and the plantations can go a long way in clearing out the unwanted pollution off the air.
