Infertility is a reproductive system condition which impairs conception. Additionally, women who get pregnant but then suffer miscarriages are also considered infertile. Progesterone is another commonly used infertility treatment. It is available in form of intramuscular injection or vaginal suppository. It is usually administered when the ovulation process is complete. Progesterone affects the uterus lining to make it more receptive for implantation. However, if the conservative infertility treatments do not work, a physician may suggest the patient to undergo assisted reproductive technology techniques like IVF or zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT).

Causes of infertility vary greatly as there are different components of the reproductive system. These components must work in sync for conception and full term pregnancy to take place.
