When your hair is relaxed, it will be required that certain things to be done so that it not break and so you will continue to have healthy hair growth. I will outline a few things which you can do to prevent hair breakage.

*Avoid products which contain bad alcohols[SD/de natured/ethyl alcohol also called ethanol (or sometimes just referred to as simply alcohol on labels] benzyl, methyl and iso propyl alcohol. These small molecules which easily vaporise, dry out the hair and cause breakage. Look at product labels to see if these are in your hair product and try to avoid them, especially, if they are one of the first ingredients listed.

*Shampoo with sulphate free, moisturizing shampoo and a moisture rich conditioner. This helps to prevent hair breakage

*Massage the scalp frequently. This helps to stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles and are able to receive nutrients which help hair growth.

*Lessen your exposure to direct heat. The high heat exposure will cause damage to the hair. The two most common equipment used to apply direct heat to the hair are the flat iron and the blow dryer. Opt to use hooded dryer instead of the blow dryer and only use a flat iron once a week.

*Wrap your hair using a silk scarf nightly. Your silk scarf will not absorb the oil from your hair, so this will prevent the dryness that causes breakage. You should, however, use a leave-in conditioner or moisturising lotion on the hair before putting on the scarf.

*If your scalp is dry you should moisturize it with some hair oil. Some good oils are shea butter and carrot oil. Avoid hair products which contain petrolatum and mineral oil. These clog pores in the scalp and do not help hair growth

*Use protective hair styles such as bunning to protect hair ends. Another protective style is the hair weave. The best one to use is one without glue such as the sew in hair weave hairstyles.Ensure the hair weave is not braided too tightly, over time this will may cause traction alopecia.

*The bristles of the brush should be natural. They are less damaging to the hair. Also do not brush the hair when wet instead use a wide tooth comb to detangle.

*Ensure you have a balanced diet. Be careful to note if there are dietary deficiencies in nutrients that are important for hair growth. These include nutrients such as pantothenic acid. Lack of these important nutrients will cause you hair not to grow to its potential.
