Strobe lights are of the HID (High Intensity Discharge) type but which suffer the downfalls of high current consumption, heat emission, and fragility. With the emergence of light emitting diodes i.e. LEDs and their subsequent ability to achieve the strobe effect, a new long-lasting, cheap, and energy-saving solution for strobe light effects was discovered.

With LEDs, high light flashing frequencies of up to 2000Hz are easily achievable. The effect has been made even better with multicolored LEDs, with colors red, blue, green and white being commonplace. LEDs can also achieve extraordinarily high levels of brightness and it is even discouraged to look at them with the naked eye. The high strobe frequencies are also known to be capable of triggering seizures in epileptic persons.

The applications of LED strobe lights are virtually unlimited thanks to their low power consumption and ability to be operated for extended hours. Their ultra bright light also makes them fit for high-powered signaling devices. Their construction is also tough hence they will not break easily on impact or due to vibrations, and therefore they have minimal or zero maintenance requirements. These attributes have seen them deployed as warning lights in fire fighting vehicles as well as in ambulances and other emergency vehicles which depend on strobe light systems. They are also perfect for construction vehicles, plow trucks, and so forth. Their brightness allows them to be visible from long distances thus providing all the attention and adequate response time the public would ever need in emergency situations.

When buying LED strobe lights it is important to have the required strobe mechanism in mind. The industry has plenty of technologies to this effect especially when dealing with strobe patterns. We can for example have a strobe mechanism with up to 20 flash modes/patterns and featuring auto recall/memory function. These systems are ready for use in cars and they are regularly supplied in packages containing a cigarette lighter adaptor power supply unit, mounting clips, interconnecting harness, cable brackets, and so forth, to safely secure the lights on the vehicle’s body. Some reputable companies also include drill bits to ease up the job. These are essentially plug-and-play systems with the added advantage of being dust and moisture-resistant.

LEDs are normally rated at 4 watts. The light intensity can be made even greater by including multiple LEDs and thus most packages contain 1, 2, 4, 6 or 9 light bulbs; 36 watts of LED light is very bright light. Better distribution of light beams is achieved by mounting the light bulbs on chrome deflectors. By combining LED bulbs of different colors we can have beams of various lengths and indeed very attractive strobe lights.
