Usually when someone asks how to wash a car, unless their car's paint is in the type of shape and condition it should be in, it almost doesn't matter unless you have performed the basic and necessary requirements of proper car paint care. Establishing a healthy base is the first step to washing your car. It really only requires (2) simple products and a little time and effort for shiny and smooth paint. Detailing Clay: Detailing clay is used to remove surface contaminates that make your car's paint feel gritty. Normal washing and waxing will not remove these embedded pollutants and use of detailing clay is the only solution to smooth and pollution free paint. Use on a freshly washed car prior to any application of car wax. Since pollution is ongoing, use of detailing clay will be a necessary duty to keep your car's paint healthy and shiny.
Car Wax: Car wax serves (2) purposes: protection and visual enhancement. After you have used detailing clay, now protection needs to be applied in the form of a quality wax. If you are working on a dark colored car, a paste wax will offered the best visual performance. If you are looking to wax less often or as little as possible, reach for a 100% liquid synthetic polymer sealant. This is where you will find the ultimate in durability and protection.
Once you have created a healthy foundation, shopping a dedicated car wash soap is a must. With advances in chemical engineering, now you can have a car wash soap that actually helps rejuvenate the wax on your car, as well as visually enhance the cars look through added ingredients.
Using a sheepskin wash mitt is also recommended to help prevent scratching during the car washing process. For extra suds, I like to add a few drops of car wash soap directly to the wet wash mitt for an over-abundance of lubricating suds.
If you are still drying your car with bath towels, slap yourself in the face and then go get yourself a quality chamois. I prefer using a synthetic chamois like the one from Water Sprite. These contain all the benefits of a natural chamois, without any of the draw backs.
As a few added points: - Wash car in shaded area.
- Wash from top down and around.
- Never let your car drip dry; hard water spots are worse than d a dirty car.
- Using a squeegee at the gas station does not count as how to wash a car!
- Wash car weekly.
