Use & Benefits Of A Safe Mode

It has been more than a decade now that Safe Mode has been a part of Windows. Ever thought why a Safe Mode? Or perhaps what could be the benefits of keeping this. If no, then you have devoid yourself from a very vital information.

Safe mode can be defined as the diagnostic mode for Windows operated systems. It was typically intended to solve most problems of this OS, if not all. If Windows encounter a system critical problem that deviate’s system’s normal performance and operation, then it opens in the Safe Mode. You can say it is Window’s mechanism for DIY laptop repair or mending system's internal problem.

Why a safe mode?
Safe mode is preferred over normal windows mode because; when a system is in this mode it has reduced functionalities. This helps to isolate the problem and solve it easily. In Safe Mode;
1) Autoexec.bat or config.sys file is not operational.
2) Most device drivers which a Window uses for hardware interaction are not active.
3) Safe mode eats fewer resources as Standard VGA graphic mode is used by this mode.
4) In normal mode Himem.sys is part of config.sys script. But in Safe Mode it is loaded with as testmem:on switch, which automates the computer to test the extended memory before continuing.
5) 16 colors and a resolution of 640 x 480 are used when Windows loads in Safe Mode.

How to start a safe mode?
It is easy to start Safe mode. Normally if there are issues like disk corruption, or poor configuration of softwares preventing booting, the system will automatically start in this mode. But if you have to manually start safe mode, then just press F8 key a couple of times when you start or restart the computer. A black screen appears just press enter against the highlighted Safe mode.

Fix the following errors with Safe Mode:-
1) Effective for removing Malicious Programs / Adware’s - Sometimes it is difficult to remove malicious adware’s and viruses as they become part of auto-run programs in normal mode. As Safe mode bypasses startup programs, it will be easy for remove them.
2) Freeze/crash/restart - If your system experiences any of these three, the culprit could be a corrupt program which begins with a Window startup. Use the Msconfig utility in safe mode to stop a highly suspicious activity.
3) Easy Restore point - If for some reason you are not able to create a restore point in normal mode then switch to Safe mode to create one.
4) Registry & Driver Installation Issues - corrupted registry issues and drivers which have not been installed properly, both can be rectified in the Safe Mode easily.
