Many people cancel their plans of traveling overseas for a holiday because they think it’s expensive. While this is true, you can still make your dream holidays a reality by cutting down on air travel expenses. Today, we will share five ways to find cheap flights to your overseas holiday destination.
1. Purchase a return ticket
This is one of the easiest ways to save cash—simply buy a return ticket. This is effective because many airline companies offer rebates when you buy a return ticket as well. This allows you to get two tickets for a cheaper price. You can buy these tickets in advance. If you already have a schedule for your departure and arrival, don’t hesitate to get a return ticket.
If you have a flexible holiday schedule, consider flying on weekdays than on weekends. Airfares are significantly more expensive during the weekend because this is the period with the strongest demand for airplane tickets. Similarly, don’t schedule your vacation during the holiday season. You could save heaps of cash if you delay your holiday a bit to avoid the crowd of tourists traveling overseas as well.
2. Search the web
The internet is a great tool for finding cheap flights. All you have to do is open your favorite search engine, type the keywords ‘’cheap flights" and voila! Hundreds of travel websites will pop up offering a myriad of travel packages for you. Keep in mind that airfares posted at these sites may change on a daily basis. So be sure to check out how and when they usually update their rates. You may choose to sign up for the sites’ newsletters to receive notifications about recent promos and flight discounts. Ideally, you need to regularly check on three travel or airline websites in order to compare the fares and packages offered.
3. Book tickets from smaller operators
Big airline operators spend millions for advertisements which customers would have to pay for later. The added costs are usually hidden in their ticket costs. So consider buying your tickets from smaller companies instead. Smaller companies don’t give great customer service but they can certainly help you cut your travel expenses down.
4. Be flexible with your travel options
It may not be something the most people are willing to do, but it can really help to keep an open mind when finding cheap flights, especially in terms of flight schedule. Check out different flight times. It is likely that you will find varying rates as well. Go for the days or times that have the cheapest rate. Usually, airplanes leaving around midnight or later offer the cheapest airfares.
5. Hit the road
If all else fails, why not just travel through a bus? While this may not be applicable for overseas destinations, it is definitely worth considering if you are just traveling across the state. Or, simply drive to the nearest state and book your overseas flight from there. You will be surprised how your location can impact the price of your flight. This is especially true if you are living in a major city where cost of living is skyrocketing.
