In the recent decades, we have seen the rise of many simple city-catering businesses evolve into today's leading brands contributing the economy not just in their state, or country, but around the globe. They have been able to create a monopoly because simply they were the pioneers in their specific field. Today's prominent brands like Walmart, Carrefour, Apple, Microsoft, Reebok, etc., are all familiar examples. Thus, one in a more "theoretical" approach would only imagine that their upcoming competitors would not be able to actually make any sort of impact considering the fact that these "Big Boys" control much of the consumer market and are, in layman terms, unshakeable. But, well that's the "black & white era,"! Today the Small business Competition is extremely tough and requires a twenty-four hour active input from any business firm. Consumers have been subjected to a very diverse collection of brands for the exact same product, and quite a few would highlight their ladder to success via the World Wide Web. Many small businesses have been able to establish themselves as consumers' favorites due to it. Then how these small-time web businesses are able to snatch out a fraction of customers of the globally established business tycoons? Here are the ingredients for such small business competition to stand out:
Small businesses can be much more nimble than larger companies - which implies that small companies are often more quick and hence could monitor any trends, while follow that with a response immediately.
Effective competence skills- Some businesses via the internet are able to compete with larger businesses more effectively by eradicating much of the expenses of a "brick and mortar store", etc.
Small companies can be much more customer-intimate - Those who have endowed their employees to create a worthwhile customer experience for their customer, have resulted with customers who kept coming back and hence the word spread from customers to their friends, etc. Furthermore, smaller businesses can be a bit personal to their customers, rather than deal in some kind of "corporate-speak." When one speaks in an "authentic" approach, customers do listen and respond.
Sales Tax Exemption - Probably a key advantage of E-commerce for small businesses appears in the sales tax exemption on many transactions. Large chains often have a hard time avoiding sales tax because they are often having physical stores in many locations. This provides a good number of small businesses a price advantage on many products.
Employee Search eased - Small business can recruit employees very effectively and cheaply by placing online advertisements than trying to find qualified individuals through traditional ways.
Geographical advantage - Online web helps create a border-less market that allows people to shop at any time. Small businesses can compete in the same markets as larger businesses, without necessarily needing to have a physical presence.
Always emphasize quality over quantity-To conclude, a major flaw of small businesses is they try to compete with bigger companies on their own ground. In other words, small business competitors must consistently offer what the larger businesses do not. Having a minor output & clientele, one can afford to lavish time and thus get successful as time goes by, while customer base increases.
