Everybody loves colour, and it can add a sense of drama and interest to any room, yet many homeowners are fearful of using it in their bathrooms, instead opting for neutral shades like cream and white. Using colour can be an incredibly economical way to give a fresh, energetic appeal to your bathroom and it is surprising that more people don’t recognise this.
The Power of the Colour Wheel. When creating a colour scheme for a room, most designers kick things off with the colour wheel, which demonstrates how colours can work together in a room. Whether you want soft, mellow shades or striking primaries full of attitude, the colour wheel is the perfect place to start when designing your new bathroom. For a bold and arresting design, you could opt for two colours from opposed sites of the wheel (think navy blue and yellow), or for something a little softer, you may want to choose two shades of the same colour. Whichever colours you choose, you should ensure that you can live with them every day. Choosing vibrant colours can seem like a good idea in the heat of the moment, but keep in mind that you will have to spend a good amount of your time looking at them!
Colour Gives Personality to a Room. Colour can give a room its own personality, its own mood. For example, red gives a sense of passion, whilst yellow is lively and cheerful. If you want your bathroom to feel regal, opt for deep purple shades, or choose blues for a calming, soothing feel. It is also worth noting that some colours even emit their own "temperature" – blues and greens are often considered to be colder colours, whereas reds, yellows and oranges are warm. A lot of people who choose to colour their bathrooms choose blues and greens, due to their calming, relaxing qualities, enabling the homemaker to create that spa feeling that many so people love after a hard day at work.
Hopefully you now know that neutral colours are not the only option for your new bathroom. Neutral whites and creams are no doubt a safe option, (and can certainly be sensible if you plan to sell your home in the future), however, colours can also work well if used sensibly. Used the colour wheel to see if the colours you are considering work well together and they will not look mismatched when together in your bathroom.
