Under the Danish Green Card scheme, residence and work permit is issued on the basis of a point system designed to assess the eligibility of the applicant.
To acquire a Green Card an individual must attain at least 100 points or above. The applicant is evaluated and assessed on the following:

Educational Level – To obtain points for education, an applicant must have completed:
• Bachelor's degree followed by one-year Master's degree
• Master’s Degree
• PhD
An applicant can obtain bonus points, if he/ she had graduated from an internationally recognized university. Further an applicant can obtain bonus points, if his/ her education qualifies to work in a field where Denmark is currently experiencing a shortage of qualified professionals
Language Skills – The language skills of an applicant are judged on the basis of Danish language proficiency tests meant for overseas applicants. The applicant must document that he/ she has passed an exam in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English or German language at a level corresponding to the Danish Language Test.

An applicant can be given a maximum of 30 points for language skills.

Work Experience – An applicant can earn a maximum of 15 points depending upon the number of years and relevancy of work. Additionally, it is vital that the occupation is listed in the Positive List to obtain qualifying points under this factor.

Adaptability – this criterion is measured based on how well you can adapt yourself to the Danish environment. The applicant can earn points if he/she has an educational or work related attachment to the EU/EEA (including Denmark), since it is seen to increase the candidate’s ability to quickly adapt to the Danish labour market. Maximum of 15 points can be obtained for adaptability.

Age – An applicant can grab a maximum of 15 points on the basis of their age in the following way :
• 35-40 years: 10 points.
• Younger than 35 years: 15 points.

The applicant must have adequate funds to financially support himself/ herself during the first year in Denmark. One is required to produce their bank account details or a similar document which shows their financial possessions.
An applicant and other accompanying family members must have health insurance coverage till they are covered by the Danish National Health Insurance.
