The power of contemporary organic farming is mostly unrealized, but local and organic food markets are reaching a tipping point. The rise of organic farming has been driven by small, independent producers and also by purchasers. The organic trend has developed in response to a growing need for organic goods. Back in the early eighties, many farming and consumer associations began seriously pressuring for government regulation of organic production.

National specifications for organic food production are now well established and purchasers can be confident in the organic label. Several US States approved their own regulations pertaining to organic produce.

With increasingly more attention being given to the effect diet can have on our bodies, it is inevitable that the question will occur as to whether or not there is a particular advantage of organic food. Organic food partisans will say - with no hesitation - of their superior vitality and general well-being. When we look at the relationship between what we eat and our health and longevity, it is logical that we must also consider the possible benefit of organic food.

Virtually all conventional crops are raised with the use of fertilizers and many other chemicals intended to eliminate weeds and insects that may damage the crop. Continued use of these chemicals can deteriorate the soil and start to ruin the eco-system in the ground. In addition, they contribute to some pests developing a tolerance to them which encourages the further creation and usage of stronger chemicals.

The contrary to all this is growing plants organically. Organic fruits and vegetables are cultivated without using pesticides and are free of preservatives or additives on every level. Organic farming is a far more time consuming process of production and needs more time to replenish the natural eco-system too. Starting an organic farm involves taking time to pull off weeds manually, use other animals and insects to fight pests and where this doesn't work, finding different ways of dealing with the many organisms that negatively affects crops. Fertilizer will be compost or animal muck. Thus, organic food will not be exposed to chemical things of any kind while its growing, processing, manufacturing or packaging. Organic farming has grown as one of the markets of the future as more and more people are demanding the most nutritious and natural items for their families.

Many shoppers know about the fact that you can get not only organic produce but organic meats as well. This allows you to adjust your whole nutritional lifestyle if you wish so, without the need to give up on such things as meats and dairy products, substituting the non-organic stuff as a better alternative.

Regarding animal products, such as meat and dairy, animals are provided only organic food. This simply means that livestock don't have any non-organic foods in their diets at all from the very beginning. There's also the important advantage of not having any sort of antibiotics pumped into these animals as well as not being exposed to other potentially harmful toxins. Traditional agricultural growers are in the practice of giving lots of synthetics to dairy cows in an attempt to boost their size and milk result. Organic agricultural farmers - within rigorous federal government guidelines - are forbidden utilizing these chemical substances; chemicals, which have to be noted, that have not been observed thoroughly enough to positively decide upon their extended repercussions.

In case you do your grocery shopping in a place where organic foods are obtainable, you will find the organic meats and dairy items to be available. The same is true, perhaps especially more so, of online organic food retailers.

Yet another bonus of organic farming is its ability to impact us on our environment as a whole. Reducing our exposure to chemically changed food and saving our planet from unwanted contact with unnatural toxins. Conventionally grown fruits and vegetables are chemically addressed even while they are still in the ground, stuffing the soil with an unnatural cocktail that alters its properties permanently - and very likely leaks into our water supply. Organic farming keeps soil in its natural state and protects our water resources.
